45,000 Tech Workers Laid Off in March 2026 — And It's Not Over
March 2026 becomes the worst month for tech layoffs since 2023. Intel, Amazon, and Oracle lead the bloodbath.
As of March 10, 2026, the tech industry has recorded 81 layoff events impacting 45,724 workers — and the month is barely a third over.
The AI Factor
Roughly 9,238 of these layoffs — about 20% — have been explicitly linked to AI implementation and automation. Companies are restructuring teams around AI-assisted systems, affecting not just entry-level roles but specialized and senior positions.

Year-End Projections
If the current pace holds, 2026 could see 264,730 total tech layoffs, surpassing 2025's 245,000. That would make it the worst year for tech employment since the post-pandemic correction of 2023.

Beyond Tech
The layoff wave is no longer confined to Silicon Valley. Retail (Macy's, Saks, Walgreens), logistics (UPS), pharmaceuticals (Catalent), and even clean tech (Boston Metal) are all cutting workers.

Employee Confidence
Tech employee confidence has hit a record low, with workers describing a culture of 'forever layoffs' — the constant anxiety that the next round could come at any time.
